E go better … But it starts with you

Nigeria!!! Because of so many unfortunate occurrences, we have been subjected to deep scrutiny by our fellow Nigerians.
Let me back up a little:

Set the stage. 1990’s thereabouts, I need a loan from the bank. I just walk in, drop my land documents as collateral, they approve the loan, I pay back and we’re done!! My documents are mine, your money is yours.

Set stage 2: 2012: Step through two security doors and a metal detector, get scanned at the inner door, apply for a loan with your land documents, land documents go through several screening processes over a period 3 months, comes back to you, loan denied!!!

So you see where I’m coming from. Due to the rising number of frauds and the fact that most of these institutions have had their fingers burned, they are being extra careful to the point of frustration. Suppose for instance you have your title documents and they somehow appear at a bank to serve as collateral for someone you had no idea existed!!! That’s how bad its gotten.

Today for instance, I went to apply as a volunteer worker somewhere and I was told that I couldn’t start immediately – Reason being that they had to check my background and all because these days they don’t know who is who with all that’s happening in the country. (This is by the way but I hope I’ll be able to post a day to day update of my volunteer experience – Diary of a volunteer worker. Details later!!!)
Anyway, the point I’m trying to make is that there are serious issues at hand, yes, but we need to change. If the next person says A does it so I will, there will be no improvement. Do what is right not what is common. Some people are probably murmuring now that no matter what there will always be the fraudsters and I say ‘So what?’ Does it mean you have to be one? If everyone leaves the defrauding to someone else, won’t the rate decrease drastically or be ultimately non-existent?
This is a cry out to Nigerians!!! Do not be distracted by trivial issues. Look out for the bigger picture. Talk to the ‘man in the mirror’ and make a change!
A little change, you’d be surprised, goes a long way. So today, please please and please, decide to make a change for a positive Nigeria. We say Nigeria would be better but Nigeria is the people so let us be better for a better Nigeria!!

Its the end of May and the beginning of the last month in the first half of the year. Make a change before it is too late.
God bless Nigeria and God bless us all!!!
Enjoy the rest of your week and happy new month in advance!!!

Proposal fever!!!

Ladies, we say we want grand gestures – a proposal on the beach, the top of the empire state building, a dozen roses and candles but what happens when this gestures go wrong? I just laughed after reading the story of a guy who lost the engagement ring in the sand!!! Click on the link below:

Marriage proposal goes awry when brain surgeon loses ring in the sand | The Lookout – Yahoo! News.

And gentlemen, when you want to make it big, please please and please, either have a back up plan in case something goes wrong or take extra measures to pay attention to the details and make sure that the key ingredient – THE RING – is easily accessible.

I’ve included links to some over-the-top proposal videos (some great, some not-so-great) and I’ll soon start a 7-part series on ‘What attracts what?’ so stay connected!!!

Mob dance leads to marriage proposal

Proposal at graduation

Big screen proposal

Proposal: Bride ends up in the hospital!!

Just plain weird proposal

I think that’s enough joh. Personally, I believe the fewer elements involved the better. Turn a simple romantic gesture into one of the most important days of both your lives. At the end of the day it depends on her personality (or his :-s)!  Nevertheless, whatever you decide to do, however you decide to do it, be sure you’re doing it with the right person and may God bless your union.

That’s all for now.

Love,

Moi!!!

Love (even your enemies)!!!

I know I’ve talked about love and relationships quite a bit but this is different. This talks about unconditional love with SOLID scriptural backing – that is one of the many reasons I admire our next writer Godswork! Apart from that I like the fact that he tries his possible best to please God – wait for this – not when its convenient but ALL the time. Besides he’s an amazing writer … There’s a link to some more of his work at the end. Plus I absolutely ADORE his accent!!! 😀 Lol … Okay read!!!

————————————————————————————————————————————————————–

Don’t fight your enemies with hate and resentment, indifference and revenge; rather let your act of love and care for them, do the work for you.
It is now not a suprise why Jesus said ”Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you”, for now we know that by doing good to those who least deserve it, you heap coals of fire on their head. Suprised by your generosity, they will be ashamed of what they have done to you.
Truly speaking, it is annoying, painful, and hurting when you have people like that around you, that it seems reciprocal to hate back. But this is what the Lord says “vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord”.
Take some time to think about how the world will be when we all behave in one way-hating ourselves. Let’s learn to play our role, and leave God to finish the business. For this reason we should not  let evil get the best of us, but conquer evil by doing good. This might seem unrealistic, considering the fact that some people just like offending, and seemingly derive pleasure in coining evil from their heart. Clearly speaking on this, God said “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked”. so it appears that everyone is suited to work out or do evil and wickedness. But we who are in christ have received a new heart, as it is written,“And I will give you a new heart with new and right desires, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony heart of sin and give you a new, obedient heart.  And I will put my Spirit in you so you will obey my laws and do whatever I command”. For those who become Christians become new
persons. They are not the same anymore, for the old life is gone. A new life has begun. We don’t behave like the world,or copy its standards, but we are transformed daily to behave like God (by constantly renewing our mind with His word), who loves us no matter what, showing his unbeatable love by sending His only begotten son to die for us. Even when we reject him, He does not reject us, but still shower his love on us. God wants us to Love just like He would. He does this to show us an example, that when we love like Him, we live like Him.
When we love those who wrong us, we are  acting as true children of our Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and on the unjust, too. If you love only those who love you, what good is that? Even corrupt tax collectors do that much. If you are kind only to your friends, how are you different from anyone else? Even pagans do that. But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect .
Always know that God will not tell you to do what He has not done before, and that if He tells you to do anything He has already provided you with the power you need to fulfil that task.
Every action we take has a motive behind it, this motive shows the genuinety of your action. In line with this, we should love those that least deserve it, because God loved us and still loves us even though we least deserve it.
Truly speaking,God is the perfect definition of love, for God is love.
I admonish you to love, now not your enemies alone, but all that demands your love, especially loving the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. And moreso you should love your neighbour as you would yourself. In this way, love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment, because in this world we are like him.

Here are some more notes from Godswork!!! Hope you enjoyed this as much as I did. And don’t be just a reader, take action!!! Go out and love today(yes even your enemies) – UNCONDITIONALLY!!!

MAULAG?

In other news, University of Lagos shall be known henceforth as Moshood Abiola University.
The most amazing thing is that GEJ’s timing is impeccable – Changing things when people are asleep. Anyway, my main concern is all those “‘Lag” babes and their artificial swag. Don’t get me wrong, I love Akokites! In fact, I’m an Akokite by association (I’ll explain that in a bit). Back to ‘Lag babes; they shall now be called ……………………….. WHAT? Mauni babes? Maulag babes? Mau babes? Either way it still sounds very unsophisticated and extremely local.
Yes, Moshood Abiola is a Nigerian hero but the protests are based on the fact that all the ‘swag’ just got sucked out of Unilag. I think they can deal with M.K.O Abiola University though I can feel a few raised eyebrows even as I type this!
My next concern is ISL (International School Lagos), my alma mater – If you haven’t figured it out yet, this is the cool story I said I’d tell later :-D. ISL is the secondary school of UNILAG and it was often called ISL UNILAG What will they call it now? I’m hearing rumors of it being called Moshood Abiola Memorial School!!! To this I absolutely protest!!! Tush name like ISL will change to MAMS? Like seriously!!! GEJ biko I’m begging you on behalf of all present and ex-ISL students, leave our school alone, its okay the way it is please. I feel sorry for all the medicos in MAUTH as well!!! X_X
As for joining protest, you people are on your own!! I’m NOT in Unilag so it affects me in no way and as for ISL, my certificate has been collected and on it written International School University of Lagos – Nothing can change that :-p!
Hahaha! I just had to write on this … I want feed back so people feed me back!!!

27th May 2012

I’m about to go to bed and wordpress for blackberry is having some issues on my phone so this post will be about an hour early.

‘You are you and that is true, there’s no one in the world who’s you-er than you’

                                                              – Dr Seuss

I decided to go all Dr Seuss on us today because its Children’s Day!!! And I couldnt have said it better myself – there’s no one that can do YOU better than YOU! In the same way, you can’t do anyone else better than they do – In other words, be the best you you can be ‘cos that’s the only you you get to be!!! (Loving this quote – Its an original by the way ;-))

If you feel you’re ‘too old’ to be a child, please honour a ‘child’ today. Its the national day to honour children!!! I have to enjoy myself today o and I hope you do too!
Happy Children’s Day and have a beautiful week!!!
