All I want for Christmas is …
Our first writer is a special woman of God. She doesn’t know this but I’ve admired her since I met her. The fact that she bothered to know me even when I wasn’t directly connected to her went a long way to create an impression in my heart and I thought about it and decided that she is the best person to write on this part of our fruit. I won’t take much of your time … Her name’s Miss Ify Ekeruche and she blogs here. Today she’s serving us up a big bowl of Kindness … Enjoy!!!
Kindness is based on the loving heart of the one performing the act, not the loving heart of the recipient. God is our model for kindness. The kindest act ever recorded in the bible was God sending His own Son, Jesus, to die on the cross for our sins so that we might live forever in heaven. It doesn’t get any better than that, and He continues to shower us with kindness each day even when we least deserve it. Truth is, it is impossible to exhibit this selfless act unless we are first truly loving.
Kindness is the sign of a loving heart; a quality borne out of a sense of compassion, shown in the way a person speaks and acts. Ordinarily, as human beings we tend to be kind to those who reciprocate or exhibit the potential to reciprocate the act, rather the kindness God models is one that flows out as a result of the Holy Spirit planted in our lives; it really cannot happen any other way.
As believers,, this is the kind of life we have chosen – a spirit-led life and in ensuring that we do not just hold it as an idea in our heads or a sentiment in our hearts; we must consciously work out its implication in every detail of our lives. Choose to be kind. Jesus said
‘Here is a simple rule of thumb for behaviour: Ask yourself what you want people to do for you; then grab the initiative and do it for them! If you only love the loveable, do you expect a pat on the back? Run-of-the-mill sinners do that. If you only help those who help you, you expect a medal? Garden-variety sinners do that. If you only give for what you hope to get out of it, do you think that’s charity? The stingiest of pawnbrokers does that. I tell you, love your enemies. Help and give without expecting a return. You’ll never – I promise – regret it. Our Father is kind, you be kind.’
And that folks is an excerpt on kindness. If nothing at all, I hope you are going to be kind to these two sets of people in addition to your usual groups:
- Those that don’t deserve it
- Those that can’t repay your kindness!
Compliments of the season and catch y’all tomorrow!!!
