End time … Be prepared!!!

It has indeed been a very sad weekend indeed for Nigerians. The month of June ushered in a massive number of deaths. Over 200 people have lost their lives in reported accidents and its just the fourth day of the month. I know most of us are devastated about the number of lives being lost and the fact that it could have been prevented but what breaks my heart most is that people are shouting ‘foul play’ because others are and not because they understand the gravity of the situation or the stories of individuals on that plane but because its another reason for us to blame Jonathan. But was Jonathan the pilot of the plane? Is he the head of management of Dana Air? Was it his approval that put that plane in the air? Is he the aviation minister? Granted, most people are at logger heads with him at the moment and question his decision making abilities and ultimately, some of the blame should be put on him because he is the president after all but blaming GEJ wont change anything.

Nigerians sadly don’t even know how to react in emergency situations. Its just pathetic. I don’t believe its a Nigerian thing though. I believe that in this age of social networking, it won’t be long before someone tweets ‘I’ve just been shot and I’m dying’ the second before his death. Many people were taking pictures of the crash scene and doing nothing but hindering rescue teams from coming in.

Imagine Miss Jane, tired after three consecutive flights and finally looking forward to seeing her little 5 year old in Lagos. Its her first day on the job so she’s relieved that she’s finally going home after a long day. Mid flight the first engine packs up but she tries to reassure all the passengers on board that everything is fine while she’s panicking inside. Over Lagos, she heaves a sigh of relief that they are almost there and then gets the passengers ready for landing. The plane crash lands and they start shouting ‘Help! but no one does anything until about 20 minutes after. She doesn’t even know they attempted because she is burnt beyond recognition as we speak and that 5 year old is still waiting for mummy to come home.

That was a fictitious story (except the ‘Help’ part though timing may not be accurate) but there is a story behind every life lost on that plane. These ladies had no idea that they were going to die before the day ran out.

Take one year old Christopher with his mum as well – Thats the end of his short life. Or look at these little kids. Its their first time in Nigeria. They are excited and they keep asking ‘Mummy when’s the plane gonna land? When are we gonna see uncle?’ but they never landed. A whole family gone that way, a father, mother and their three little angels with grandma as well. Apparently they were excited about ‘uncle’s’ wedding this weekend but alas, they didn’t even see today. Sad story!

Its heart wrenching when you look at the manifest. There were many families on board that flight. Some people have started screaming ‘I will never fly with a Nigerian airline again!!!’. But what about those that were having a quiet Sunday, on the first floor of that two story building? There are children who’ve lost their parents from that building that do not understand the gravity of the situation. Its not about not taking Nigerian airlines again, its all about the grace of God. Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying God’s grace was not with the people on the flight. I’m just saying that being alive today is not necessarily about the precautions that we take daily. You are not the reason you’re still alive.

Take for example those that celebrated the fact that they were alive and well and not on the ill-fated flight yesterday, going about the business of the day only to get unto third mainland bridge and have the uncompleted billboard collapse.

Nigerians do not like hearing the truth though. Had someone made noise about the condition of the plane, we’d have probably shut him up insulting him and saying he was overreacting after all he wasn’t the only one on the plane. But now, people are saying why didn’t they come out earlier … The truth is human beings can never be satisfied.

All these accidents around have set my heart on one particular question: ‘If you were gone this minute, are you sure of your destination?’ Make peace with God now. Live a life of holiness – not sometimes but ALL the time. Do it now because the next minute may be too late. We know Jesus is coming very soon – See the signs of the end times but we don’t know when exactly He’s coming so be prepared. If something happens before He happens to come, you have to be prepared so I’m begging you all earnestly, be your brother’s keeper. If your brother is going astray, pull him back – Watch yourself as well! God would hold you responsible for those around you so do your best and leave the rest to God.

We need to watch and pray AND act!

God bless us all,

God bless Nigeria.

Love, Moi!

On the 5th day to Christmas ….

Well, we can’t really talk about Christmas without some form of entertainment in this age. Even in ages past, I’m sure celebrating Christmas was a big deal.
So, how would you describe a good time? What would you do? Who would be there? Just ponder these questions for about 30 seconds …. What’s the most fun thing you can think of?
Most Christians make a list of things they do and don’t do because they are Christians. If you made such a list, how many things would be on the ‘do’ side? Like Jesus said the two most important commandments are to:
Love God and Love your neighbour!!!
If you make it your goal to love God and others, you would not do things to hurt them and ultimately we’ll live lives that please God.
Being a Christian does not mean we should not have fun. On the contrary it means WE should show the world HOW TO HAVE FUN!!! Let your guide be Phillipians 4:8 at all times. There are definitely some activities we shouldn’t participate in, but there are plenty others we CAN do. Don’t ever apologize for having a good time. God has given you life so celebrate it and enjoy God’s good gifts!!!
God is good and its good to celebrate the things He’s done for you. So feel free to throw a party and celebrate God’s greatest gift to mankind – His Son!!!

On the 7th day to Christmas ….

Normally its the 12 days of Christmas but we’ll make ours the 7 days to Christ mass!!! We’re going to go day by day as we count down to Christmas and get some insight on celebrating the Christ-way!!!

Today’s focus is love. We all know John 3:16 but how many of us really understand it. For a moment take your mind off God giving His son and focus on Jesus choosing to come, leaving His glory in heaven and humbling Himself to be born as a helpless baby, dependent on everyone around Him for His needs when He had every angel in heaven worshiping Him, knowing that He was going to suffer and ultimately die. He did not know what would happen after His death o!!! People just say Jesus came to die for our sins – quite alright He did but He died the most shameful death of His time without the assurance that people would turn their hearts back to God; yet He did it for us because of His love for us.

We have a new command to love one another. So consider these two:
1) As we love our families, remember as a Christian you’ve entered into a new relationship – a family of believers so love one another.
2) We say we love our families but how many of us have selfless love for everyone in our families? Christ has set the standard so love like Christ does.

Love isn’t optional for Christians. We are to be people who love each other in the self sacrificing way that Jesus loves so that others can see how real Jesus is by the difference He makes in our lives!

Think about this, celebrate in agape (the love of Christ) and see you tomorrow!!!
